Schools
GRUCom provides the Alachua County Public School District with a private 10-Gigabit Metro Ethernet Fiber Network which securely and reliably interconnects our community’s 47 schools and educational centers, and provides access to the World Wide Web via dual 10-Gigabit Internet Access Circuits. And, as a participant in the FCC’s E-rate program, GRUCom helps to make telecommunications and information services more affordable for our schools. GRUCom is proud to support the students, teachers and administrators of Alachua County Public Schools!
Libraries
GRUCom has been providing the Alachua County Library District with Wide Area Networking (WAN) and Internet Access services for over 20 years! Today, GRUCom supplies fiber optic connectivity to each of ACLD’s 13 branch locations, spread across each of Alachua County’s eight communities, along with Gigabit-enabled Internet Access. GRUCom is proud to support the patrons, workers and administrators of Alachua County Library District.
Public Safety
GRUCom ensures that first responders always have the lifeline they need when they need it! GRUCom provides Tower Leasing, Wide Area Networking (WAN), and Internet Access services in support of the Alachua County Public Safety Radio System, supporting the mission-critical wireless communications needs of our local police, firefighters and emergency medical service (EMS) personnel. Alachua County’s public safety radio services are also used by local government and utility operations personnel, enabling full interoperability and unified communications between all local public agencies during emergency situations.

GRUCom is the telecommunications division of Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU), the 5th-largest municipal electric utility in Florida and the most comprehensive utility service provider in the State of Florida. GRU serves approximately 93,000 retail and wholesale utility customers in Gainesville and surrounding areas, offering electric, natural gas, water, and wastewater services. The GRUCom fiber-optic network is the backbone to all of GRU’s critical communications and utility control systems, enabling GRU to provide safe, reliable, competitively priced utility services in an environmentally responsible manner to enhance the quality of life in our community.
Higher Education
Gainesville has been described as one of America’s best college towns. The University of Florida and Santa Fe College, two of the nation’s top ranked public institutions of higher education, are a large part of that well-earned reputation. GRUCom maintains multiple Point-of-Presence (PoP) sites on the campuses of UF and SFC capable of providing ultra-high-capacity local access and internet services. GRUCom also maintains a local, private peering arrangement with UF for the purpose of directly exchanging internet traffic between GRUCom and UF.
